I have always found having an outside mentor to be one of the things that has provided different perspectives on running my business. A trusted and experienced mentor, with the knowledge and background who can provide a valuable sounding board to the strategic decisions that need to be made. These people over time gain a feel for your personality, your approach and for the business and its culture. Inevitably they have no hidden agendas and can tell you the way it is, and deliver an impartial and unbiased input into your decision-making. They are a source of inspiration and strength. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since selling my business I have reflected on the role I have played as a mentor to other owners and senior executives. An open and honest exchange of ideas, where both parties can discuss the options at hand is of paramount importance. It can be lonely as the head of an organization. In a world where building a positive culture can be difficult, it\u2019s important not to be isolated, or tempted to take your work problems home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I tailor programmes to suit the individual. Some of my clients prefer to meet weekly, either by phone, zoom or in person. Some prefer fortnightly or monthly sessions and some like to have me on call. Flexibility is the key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
